Shared Living

In 2006 Central Aroostook ARC started its Shared Living Program. Shared Living is an individualized living arrangement in which adults with developmental disabilities can live in a family setting other than with their own biological families.

The focus of our program is to provide safe, stable and secure homes that enable individuals to develop their skills, build supportive relationships and become truly integrated members of their communities. Central Aroostook ARC provides this service throughout Aroostook County.

Our Shared Living Program provides support, training and assistance to the men, women and families who have opened their homes to individuals with developmental disabilities. Shared Living providers are carefully screened, trained men and women who have opened their homes and lives to meet the varying needs of those individuals they serve.

Through an intensive matching process, providers and individuals live together and build family or roommate relationships. Sometimes this relationship can be a stepping stone to another type of living situation, although at times the shared living arrangement endures for many years.
