Home Community Supports, Central Aroostook AssociationHome Supports is a program designed for adults diagnosed with developmental disabilities who either live in their own home or reside with elder parents. The purpose of the program is to implement goals and activities that establish learning opportunities so that skills are learned to be independent or reduce dependency. Home services include, but not limited to, personal care maintenance, laundry, comparative shopping and budgeting, nutritional support with meal planning, safe food preparation, household safety, communication skills, and comprehensive medical support. The level of assistance varies based on the individual’s needs. Service can be as little as 4 hours per week to a frequency of 6 days per week. The emphasis is to evaluate abilities as a baseline and work toward total independence or highest potential.

Community Supports is in a group setting and integrated environment. Groups do not exceed three and are carefully matched based on abilities and interests. Community Supports has an emphasis on accessing community resources and activities. Exercise in various environments is dependent on weather and outdoor activities are encouraged when seasonal weather is appropriate. Safety skills in the public, social interaction, identifying and meeting needs in his/her respective communities, and learning how to plan activities is also addressed through supports. Services are based on individual needs and varies from 3 to 20 hours per week.
